Natural Lawn 101
Natural and Organic-Based Lawn Care 101
"We are not a weed service - we are building a solid and organic soil foundation."
To have a healthy lawn, you have to start with healthy soil. Our experienced method of organic-based lawn care is not only better for your grass, but it's also better for your children, your pets, and the environment.
1. Our Goal: Build Healthy Soil
We start with an analysis of your soil and a review of local conditions. Our treatments specifically-formulated for your soli send nutrients deep into the ground to promote root growth and creating a dense root system to encourage water retention. Our 100% natural conditioners contain trace materials to stimulate the growth 0f micro-flora while replenishing damaged soil. We use exclusive products to keep your soil in peak condition.
2. Integrated Pest Management -IPM aka Integrated Pest Control -IPC
IPM is a complete lawn care management system that provides for reduced, better, and safer use of materials designed to control insects, weeds, and diseases. Compared to traditional chemical lawn care companies, our IPM system has reduced weed and insect control usage on lawns by over 85%.
- By preserving the natural enemies of our turf pests.
- By introducing newly developed turf varieties with natural pest resistance.
- By providing continuing consumer education on the proper cultural practices of mowing and watering.
3. Prevention
Prevention includes conserving the natural enemies of turf pests by selective use of biological and synthetic controls, planting improved varieties of turf that have a natural resistance to insect and disease attacks, and using good lawn care practices (for example watering, aeration, and thatch removal). Now that a good soil foundation has been built, it's time to grow healthier, greener grass.
4. Monitor
We monitor and inspect your lawn throughout the growing year. We take note of the soil conditions, the grass health, and the level of pests in the lawn. We compare the information recorded during these monitoring visits with weather conditions, the pest's behavior and its stage of development, as well as the lawn's history.
4. Control
Use biological or chemical treatments only when necessary to prevent lawn damage from pests. We prefer to use biological or biorational methods. Biological controls are "living" materials that can attack and limit damaging insects. Some examples are Milky Spore, nematodes, and Bacillus Thuringiensis.
Biorational controls are non-living materials but not manmade synthetic chemical pesticides. Biorationals can affect insects by making grass bitter so bugs will not ingest it; interrupting the molting phase, preventing the insects from maturing; outright kill the pests if ingested. Some examples of biorationals are pyrethrum, which is an extract of chrysanthemums, insecticidal soaps derived from fatty acids, and NEEM, an oil that is derived from Indian evergreen trees.
5. System
Our company is dedicated to keeping as much petroleum-based synthetic fertilizer out of the ecosystem as possible. We believe we are stewards of the environment, and as such, we are responsible and accountable to ourselves and future generations. By choosing our natural, organic-based lawn care services, you are helping to keep our world a safer, greener, healthier place to live.
